The Slide is a technique that makes the notes that you play more interesting and brings more life to your guitar playing. Instead of playing two or more notes individually, you could slide up or down to the next notes. For example, you are on the 5th fret of the 2nd string, and you want to transition to the 12th fret 2nd string. Simply slide it up the 12th fret. Simple as that. The difficult thing is creating sustain, but practice would improve that.

Technology has given us the tools to make our lives easier and to make the impossible things, possible. And this technology has also conquered the world of music recording. Creating music through digital ways and means and have proved itself to be more economic than the conventional method. But is it as good as the analog one?

Of course it is. Just add your skill to the list and you are ready to go.  But of course, it is not similar to analog recording. There is a slight difference when you are recording with digital technology and analog. Just like with cameras. Analog SLR’s had this grainy thing on their photos and uses films. On digital, it’s pure, and pixels matter. In digital audio recording everything is as it is. A person would say that there is a difference because of the clearness of the digital technology. That is the only difference and was not used to it that is why we feel that it is different.

Personally, I think that digital recording is more economic therefore is better than conventional recording. It gives you the capability to record in your home for a very cheap price but almost the same quality. So nowadays, being financially deficit is not an excuse for not being able to record your own songs.

You could always search on the internet and find the tabs for a good solo. Look at it and see all the numbers turn them into notes and that’s it. Well, that is wrong. Why? Because you are not making music at all. You’re just following these numbers to get the solo and doing that would definitely make you fail. And then you’ll get bored and move on to the next solo up until in the end, you learn nothing at all. That is what we call, horizontal growth. And we don’t want that, we want to grow vertically as musicians.

So if you really want to nail that solo, you have to first listen to it thoroughly. Observe the emotions that flow with it. The bends, vibratos and other different techniques. Simply put yourself into the position of the person who created the guitar solo. I tell you, this is pretty much effective. After that, after you get the feel and emotion of the solo, look at the tabs to know how he played it. Copy it and execute it with the emotion and feel that you got and researched that you assumed the creator of the guitar solo was feeling, and that’s it.

I just wanted to share to you something that would favor blues guitar players just like me. Anyway, what I wanted to ask from you is to let me know who is your most favorite blues artist or artists. I just hope that you are into blues but anyway, blues is easy to like and has no boundaries and limits in terms of fans and supporters. Okay, basically, this is what I’m listening to. I know, you wouldn’t agree with me putting John Mayer on my list, but man, he’s got the blues, man. This guy has decent blues tunes in his albums and killer blues licks and riffs is what I get from this man that is why he would definitely make my list. Jimi Hendrix is not only a good blues player; he’s one of the greatest guitar player in the world. So, who’s on your list?

I have been annoyed by lots of kids bragging about how good they are in guitar hero. I am annoyed because I am a guitarist and I don’t think, knowing how to play guitar hero is something to brag about, I mean check the game out. Yes, it’s fun and entertaining and it is the latest excuse for not learning how to play the guitar and still rock out. It doesn’t fall short of the term “poser”. Yes, pardon me buy if you really want to rock out, learn guitar or bass or drums. Learn the real thing then play the game. That’s the right steps. You don’t play the game, brag about it and get owned by a real guitar player. That is the suckzor to the ultimate level. So if you don’t want to suck, you don’t want to be called a poser, go out and practice the real thing. And then, when you are all set, play guitar hero, and you could own twice as much people than you did when you were a poser. I tell you, learning guitar is one of the skills that people can’t take away from you. It is something you could brag about until you get old.

Actually, there’s no fixed rule on using the delay pedals, it all depends on your creativity. If you know how to exploit its power and bend it to your will, you can pretty much do a lot of stuff with it. Make it sound like a helicopter or raindrops; it’s up to you as long as it sounds good. Me? I like to use it on guitar solos and mini – fills on our slow songs. It adds a solemn effect which I cannot explain. The delay works like this, you play a note, and the signals that you send to the stomp is split and adding a slight delay on the time of release of the duplicated note, thus the term, delay. To change the time that it repeats, you could adjust the time knob. To make the delay last longer or shorter, tweak the feedback knob. Some effects pedal offer more controls on your delay effects like the mix, gain, rate, depth, and many others.

If you are not used to using it and you have no idea what you are doing, it might sound awful. But for the pros, they make something epic out of it. Look at the Edge. He’s my idol when it comes to delay effects. I am so heavily influenced by his guitar playing. What he lacks in skills, he shows in his skills on delay effects.

Ok, we know that you are freaking good in playing the guitar but don’t get all fuzzy playing guitar solos on the whole part of the song, that is what we call, “overdoing it.” Why is it bad? Duh, do I have to explain to you? It kills the song, it mutilates it. A good lead guitar player knows where to insert his solos, knows proper timing and knows when he’s overdoing things. So how do you know when you are overdoing it?

First, you will hear more of your guitar solos than the rest of the instruments in the band, that’s one sign. Another is when the vocals are overshadowed by your guitar. When everything else is underneath your guitar solo that means your way off the limit. Learn how to balance everything. A good guitar solo comes in with proper timing and dynamics. If done correctly, the force and effect is tremendous. For example, if you listen to Creed’s “Stand Here with Me” guitar solo, you can see what I’m talking about. The full guitar solo comes in on time and in the proper dynamic setting, thus, creating a massive effect and making it more emphasized. It’s all about the timing.

After the demise of the pop Punk group called, Fall Out Boy, its members when their own way, forming and playing in different groups the band’s songwriter and bassist is the last one to mention his new group called “The Black Cards.”

The Black Cards is the brainchild of his old friend Sam whom he knew long ago and was influenced by different types of foreign music. English music, Jamaican music, and music he was inspired with when he was travelling. His other band mates were also on other newly formed groups as well. Some were joined by popular musicians forming super groups.

Fall out Boy was an Overnight success story. As fast as they went up, they went down the same rate. It is really hard to keep that genre on the major label. The major label would have to squeeze everyone our t to cough up more cash for the sake of itself. Lots of gimmicks that don’t even relate to music. Ideas that no longer correspond to their principles. This is one thing that the audience has to understand, some bands just don’t have the ocean to stop or have stop over’s, they are always on the go.

Wow, if you don’t know Ringo Starr (which is an impossible idea) you probably won’t believe that he’s 70. With that energy, the looks and the humor, it seems that he isn’t aging at all.  I mean, look at him, does he look like a bloody 10 – year old grandpa to you? definitely not. Last Wednesday, he celebrated his 70^th birthday in New York’s Time Square together with fans and family. His wish? Peace and Love. That’s all he wanted for his birthday.  Maybe he’s got everything a man wants, and besides, he’s RINGO STARR! Beatle? The most popular band in the planet? Does that ring a bell to you?

I’m just kidding, anyway, Starr has shown no signs of slowing down, and in fact he has a number of shows coming on some dates in United States and Canada as well. And he let slip that he would have a grand plan on September. Now, that’s what I’m talking about. He just loves performing and his body permits him to do so. What a lucky guy indeed. And man, I want to get my hands on those Ludwig Signature sets. Costs a fortune and our very limited. Especially that one that he uses. Sheesh!

Born October 18 1926, Charles Edward Anderson Berry is one of the most influential guitar player, composer and singer. He’s part of the first batch of musicians who were in inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on its first run in 1986. His songs that were recorded earlier in his career were considered the blueprint of Rock and Roll; it was the first example of this genre. We could also say that he’s one of the pioneers of rock and roll. He fused blues and country music, along with lyrics that talked about girls and cars, electric guitar solos and energetic stage performance.

Chuck Berry’s former axe was a Gibson 350ET installed with p90 single coil pickups. Later on, he switched to Gibson ES330 and Gibson ES355’s guitars. His preferred amplifier is the Fender Dual Showman and Orange Top Amps.

Chuck Berry is pretty much popular for his use of double stops. You can hear much of this in his intros and his guitar solos. For his rhythm, he uses Blues – shuffle, especially in the verses. He’s popular songs like Johnny B. Goode are one of the most influential rock and roll songs in the world and is fun to play with. Try and search for tabs on it and practice it on your own.

Oh how joyful it is to release your own CD. But of course, I’m not talking about major label type of thing, just a CD album of our own songs that re recorded. If you have this thing in your head, you should definitely go for it. And remember that it is better if you do not do this to sell millions of copies or to impress girls, please do it for self – satisfaction. Do this for yourself, it is definitely worth it, someday, and you will look back and appreciate the art that you did. Now, how to start…

First, write a song. There’s no need to be technical and stuff, just write an honest song. And when it’s all arranged, get the necessary tools. A recording software, bass guitar, electric or acoustic guitar, piano or whatever instrument you would want to use. Now, record it all in the recording software, edit it, put in some creativity and after that make a finish product of the song. Or if you are really not into recording, you can always rent a studio and mind you, it would be a bit costly. After that, when you have your master CD or the final copy to be duplicated by manufacturers or you could even do it yourself. Package it into something sellable and go out and sell your music.

These are common to Amplitube and former users would use it without a problem.

The problem with software amps is their dynamics. Almost software amps could emulate the sound of the real thing so close that you might want it more but the problem is the dynamic response between your guitar and amp, you would feel that the moment you play your guitar, the real amps responds differently. But in all fairness, the Amplitube Fender responded quite well, much better than other software.

There are other Fender Presets available that you would surely love and I would guarantee that even though I’m not paid to do so.

Deftones have recently announced that they will blast – off with their own headline tour to kick off this August on the West Coast and would play dates all across America up to the Midwest. These dates are also considered warm up gigs for the bigger BLACKDIAMONDSKYE tours coming this fall on which they would share the stage with metal giants Mastodon and Alice in Chains. On the other hand, I am currently listening to the new record from Avenged Sevenfold which features one of my favorite drummers alive, Mike Portnoy. The song nightmare never fall short of the Avenged Sevenfold category and Portnoy did seem to make a good job out of it. Splendid chops, heavy brutal drumming in sync to the dark song and heavy guitars. Can’t wait to get my hands on the new album.
