Hendrix, Vaughn, Mayer
Jimi Hendrix is no doubt the first of his kind. He is the innovation of rock guitar. His are the juices that flow down the veins of Stevie Ray Vaughn and later on, John Mayer. Now, who is better?
You could see Stevie Ray Vaughn cover Hendrix’s song like little wing, voodoo child and others. We also have seen John Mayer create a good version out of it (I think Mayer’s version of bold as love is better). But who is better? If we’re talking about who got in first, of course, Hendrix would win. He’s the pioneer, he’s the first. In this industry, whoever came in first would be revered. Then came SRV, then after decades, came John Mayer. But what it they all existed at the same period: the modern day. Who would you think is better?
The answer: John Mayer (my opinion only) Why? Let me give you an explanation. SRV and Hendrix all live on an era where resources are limited and they trust their own instincts and creativity. Although that was a great feat alone, that falls short of what John Mayer has. He’s got all the resources that Hendrix and SRV had, he’s even got all other great guitar player’s skills as well, plus all the existing juices today. That makes him SUPER.
