This Kind of Silence

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

When I first heard Typecast on MySpace, I thought they were just another Emo band crying about being dumped and stuff, although I was a bit right about the Emo band part, I was wrong about some certain things about them. They weren’t just another band, they are meant for great things.

Typecast is a rock band that sings the honest cries of our hearts which we would never in our entire crooked life divulge to others, or worse, to the general public. But they seem to know a cool way to express heartaches and other emotional things without being labeled as corny or fags. There is definitely nothing homosexual about Typecast. From the looks and down to the sound, you would think they are from the United States.

Typecast songs are made up of the following components:

  1. Steve Badiola’s poetic whining.
  2. Melvin Macatiag’s epic pounding of the drums
  3. Chi Ressureccion’s crunk bass lines
  4. Pakoy Fletchero’s massive guitar tones.

These components are the one’s responsible for the former underground kings of Laguna to rise as one of Philippine mainstream’s top acts. They are not only popular in the Philippines but in the whole Southeast Asia as well. They’ve been touring back and forth from Singapore, Hong Kong and have opened for big acts like Shadows fall, Thursday, Darkest Hour and Dashboard Confessional.

Certainly, these guys have done much to earn this kind of exposure, but definitely it’s not enough.
